Water inside gearboxes – not exactly an ideal situation. Lubrication would be impaired and, sooner or later, defects and failures would occur in the machine. With our ZE-200 screw jacks in stainless steel design and strokes of up to 4000 millimetres, this cannot happen.

Our customer, HIRSCH Maschinenbau GmbH, headquartered in Carinthia (Austria), manufactures high-quality, flexible and economical machines for the production of sustainable insulation materials and packaging made of EPS (expanded polystyrene foam, Styrofoam), EPP and pulp moulding. Our gearboxes are used with HIRSCH blockmolds. They are used to adjust the feed slide so that the vertical and horizontal blockmolds can be produced in the appropriate size.

“As the product manager for blockmolds, I am always on the lookout for innovative solutions for our machines. With ZIMM, we have found a competent partner to further improve the quality of our machines. Thanks to the company’s flexibility, we were able to jointly develop a special gearbox that is precisely tailored to our requirements.”

Special requirements

Our ZE-200 screw jacks are particularly challenged as they are located in a hot environment and, in addition, water vapour is generated in the production process. It is essential to withstand these extreme conditions in the long term, as a steam intrusion could lead to a standstill.

The external pressure acting on the gearboxes is 1.5 bar, which corresponds to a water column 15 metres tall. For this reason, they are specially sealed both externally and internally. The perfect visual impression is also ensured by the rust-free design.

ZIMM supplies HIRSCH exclusively with these special gearboxes. The finished machines are then used on the global market.
